Job Description

Remote Short-Term Disability Case Manager at Symetra

Symetra is seeking a Remote Short-Term Disability (STD) Case Manager to support disability claims administration through claim evaluation, documentation review, case management, and customer support activities. This position plays an important role in helping claimants navigate the disability claims process while ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with policy provisions.

This Remote Short-Term Disability Case Manager role fits best as a phone job. Team members regularly communicate with claimants, employers, healthcare providers, and internal departments to gather information, discuss claim status, obtain documentation, and support claim decisions. Customer interaction is a significant component of the position.

Primary responsibilities include evaluating new and ongoing Short-Term Disability (STD), Statutory Disability Insurance (SDI), and Absence Management (AM) claims. Specialists gather and analyze clinical, vocational, employer, and financial information to support claim decisions and determine eligibility based on policy provisions and procedural guidelines.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining detailed claim documentation, developing claim management plans, responding to inquiries, coordinating with internal partners, and ensuring claims progress efficiently toward resolution. Team members are expected to balance customer service with sound decision-making and accurate claim administration.

The position requires strong communication skills, organizational abilities, attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge of disability claims, medical terminology, anatomy, pathology, and absence management concepts can provide a strong advantage.

Symetra offers a remote-first work environment, annual bonus eligibility, paid time off, retirement benefits with company matching, flexible work arrangements, and professional growth opportunities within a supportive insurance organization.

Overall, this position is ideal for professionals who enjoy case management, customer communication, claims review, documentation analysis, and helping individuals navigate disability and leave-related benefits programs.
